Our new Rockland BOCES Mock Trial team is winning! Led by our valiant Criminal Justice instructor Marta Cortelli, our seven students and two attorney advisors have battled teams from Green Meadow Waldorf School and Ramapo High School, with Amanda Matos (East Ramapo Central School District) and Jordan Fair (Clarkstown Central School District) walking out of the Clarkstown Justice Court with commendations for “Best Attorney” and “Best Witness.”
The Mock Trial Competition is sponsored by the Rockland County Bar Association, in collaboration with several local high schools, including our Rockland BOCES Career and Technical Education Center (CETC). The local competition is part of the New York State High School Mock Trial Competition program, sponsored by the New York State Bar Association.
Mock trials promote an understanding and appreciation of the American judicial system, with a focus on the U.S. Constitution, the rule of law and the roles of the prosecution and defense, in a real courtroom with practicing judges.
