WEEK 1 – JULY 8
Welding 101: A mix of practical and creative all in one class! Campers will learn the basic concepts of welding as it relates to manufacturing and fabricating, as well as design concepts for metal sculptures.
Baking - Sugar & Sprinkles: Who doesn’t love scratch-made cookies and cakes? Learn ways to decorate cakes and cookie cakes, how to use a pastry bag and how to write on baked goods with icing or frosting. The final class will showcase campers’ cake and cookie creations!
Creating Anime Art: Learn how to use Adobe software to create your own Anime Art while working in our state-of-the-art Mac lab.
Salon 101: Campers will work in a professional salon to learn the basics of hair styling (blowouts, straightening, curling), manicure/pedicure techniques, make-up application and skin care. Campers will experiment with beauty/styling products on themselves - and fellow campers!
Auto Maintenance and Light Repair: Working on cars in our state-of-the-art automotive shop, campers will learn the basics in automotive maintenance including oil changes, tire rotation and brake, steering and suspension systems.
Junior Veterinarian: Learn to be a junior vet! Try your hand at animal bandaging, performing physical exams and more! Campers will work with a variety of animals in our Rockland BOCES Animal Science lab – home to more than 35 animals!
WEEK 2 – JULY 15
Carpentry Basics: In our state-of-the-art wood-working shop, campers will learn to plan, measure, cut, build and decorate their chosen project making it ready for home use. A safety test must be completed before hand/power tools are used.
Salon 101: Campers will work in a professional salon to learn the basics of hair styling (blowouts, straightening, curling), manicure/pedicure techniques, make-up application and skin care. Campers will experiment with beauty/styling products on themselves - and fellow campers!
Mexican Fiesta: Tacos, Burritos and More! – Campers can learn and unleash new “south of the border” cooking techniques while gaining an appreciation for Mexican culture.
Graphic Design - Custom Logos for All Kinds of Garb!: Express your creativity and learn practical and technical design skills to create your own custom brand and awesome apparel. Craft design concepts, make a portfolio and add your favorite designs to your very own custom hoodie and tee shirt.

WEEK 3 – JULY 22
Video Game Design: Campers will learn the fundamentals of game design through the use of RPG Maker and Unity Game Development software. Coding and scripting will be introduced.
All About the Dough: Dumplings and More! - Learn how to make potstickers, empanadas, samosas, raviolis, pierogies and a few extra tricks and tips on making dumplings.
Dirt Bikes and Quads: Campers will learn the mechanics behind the two-stroke and four-stroke engines needed to operate dirt bikes and quads. Transmissions, steering, suspension and brakes will also be introduced.
Salon 102: Building on Salon 101, but not a prerequisite, campers are able to dabble in all areas of salon work including hair styling, manicure/pedicure techniques, make-up application and skin care, OR they can choose one or two of these areas as a concentration and fine tune skills. The choice is theirs!
Digital Painting - Turning Photos into Paintings: Working in our state-of-the-art Mac studio, campers will learn how to “paint” on a computer/tablet screen and turn photos into digital works of art! Photos will be displayed in the Career and Technical Education Center (CTEC) Gallery on Friday for all to see.
WEEK 4 – JULY 29
Nuts, Bolts and Thingamajigs Welding/Manufacturing Camp: Campers will learn the basics of welding and CNC manufacturing through the design and creation of a custom-made project. Campers will be supported throughout the week by representatives from our industry partners including Wazer (waterjet cutting), Bantam Tools (machining of aluminum), and Awisco (welding/CNC plasma cutter). An opportunity that should not be missed!
Construction Trades 101: Carpentry, electrical, plumbing and more! Gain an introduction to all things construction. A safety test must be completed before hand/power tools are used.

Photography and Photoshop: Campers will learn to take photos as an art form, visualizing objects through the lens using the Rule of Thirds. The use of Photoshop for manipulation and touch-ups will also be introduced. Photos will be displayed in the Career and Technical Education Center (CTEC) Gallery on Friday for all to see.

Salty, Sweet and Bitter – Flavor Sensations: Through daily taste testing, campers will learn how to identify the full spectrum of flavors through a series of hands-on cooking sessions and sensory activities. Bon Appetit!
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)
FAQ #1: Will lunch be provided?
A: Campers need to bring their own lunch, snacks and drinks. They will be given a 30-minute break to eat and socialize.
FAQ #2: Will transportation be provided?
A: Campers must provide their own transportation to and from camp.
FAQ #3: What is the payment/refund policy?
A: Full payment ($290) must be received upon registration. Refund requests will be honored on a case-by-case basis up to the Friday before the registered week. A $75 processing fee will be charged. FAQ #4: Is there a discount for siblings?
A: If you are registering more than one child, the cost for the second will be $250. If you qualify, please call (845) 627-4770.
Special Education Extended School Year Summer Program
An intensive, six-week program is available to students who require an extended school year (12 months). This program continues with all academic, behavioral, developmental and social needs requirements of a student’s IEP. Related services are provided, as per program model.

Regional Academic Summer School
Rockland BOCES will again offer Regional Academic Summer School during the Summer of 2024.
Regional Academic Summer School provides instructional support to students in participating districts to help them meet graduation requirements and the New York State standards. Component school districts determine student needs.
Regional Summer High School course offerings include English, Social Studies, Mathematics, Science and other areas of instruction, as requested by participating school districts. August Regents exams are offered to all districts, as per NYSED guidelines. Regional Summer Middle School students may receive instruction in English, Mathematics, Social Studies and Science.
The following districts may participate: Clarkstown, East Ramapo, Nanuet, North Rockland, Nyack, Pearl River, South Orangetown, and Suffern

Attendance/Absenteeism
The brief duration of summer school makes regular attendance imperative. Students are expected to attend class and participate each day. Family vacations are not legitimate reasons for absenteeism. Lateness will affect attendance participation points. Parents/guardians will be notified when a student is absent.
Class schedule (students may not select periods)
Period 1: 8:00 am - 9:40 am
Period 2 : 9:45 am - 11:25 am
Period 3: 11:30 am - 1:10 pm (only offered if needed)
Transportation
All questions regarding transportation should be directed to the home district. Rockland BOCES does not provide transportation. For students who drive, parking will be assigned by security personnel.
Registration
Students may register in the guidance office of their home school district in June. They may also register at the Regional Summer School office from Monday, July 8 - Wednesday, July 10 from 7:30 am - 11:30 am. No course registrations will be accepted after 11:30 am on July 10. Registrations will not be accepted without the approval of the home district.
Students may not enroll in more than TWO courses without the permission of the home school Principal. If registering at the Summer School office, students MUST bring photo ID, copy of report card, copy of IEP/504 (if applicable) and bank check/money order (if applicable).

Regents Exams and Regents Review Courses
Students NOT enrolling in summer school but who want to take a Regents exam for a 6 week course they completed at their home school, must register at their home school or the summer school office from 7:30 am - 11:30 am by Friday, July 19. The same deadline applies for students who want to sign up for Regents Review courses.
Out of District Registration
Students not attending a participating school district but whose parents/guardians reside in a participating district can register by obtaining a letter on school letterhead signed by their home school principal stating the necessary courses. The student's NYS Student ID number must be included.
Report Cards/Examinations
Mid-Summer & Final report cards will be mailed home Monday, July 29 & Friday, August 23. Students must take mid-term and final exams on scheduled dates. All other questions, please contact Rockland BOCES
Registration Fees
Registration fees for students in those districts not paying for Rockland BOCES Regional Summer School are: $499 per course (includes state exam if applicable); $175 per exam / $305 earth science exam-includes lab (if not taking course at summer school); $200 Regents Review course (does not include exam). Fees MUST be paid by money order or certified bank check payable to: Haverstraw-Stony Point Central School District. Please make a note of the student’s name and school district on the money order or certified check. Payments must be made in FULL at registration. There will be no refunds for any individual, once monies have been deposited.
