GED® Test & Academic Enrichment Programs

Are you 16 to 21 years old and may not complete high school? Could you benefit from a positive, alternative experience that will enable you to continue your education?

Whether you are thinking about better employment, continuing education or personal achievement, a high school equivalency credential is essential. Passing the General Educational Development Test (GED® Test) demonstrates that you possess basic math and English skills, and the character to see things through–and can help you secure a job for which you would otherwise be unqualified. Earning the high school equivalency credential also makes you eligible to pursue a college or technical degree, if this is your goal.

General Educational Development Test (GED® Test)

The GED® Test program at CTEC is a structured setting with small classes and a non-traditional schedule. In this preparation course, students work at their own pace on lessons assigned on an individual basis.

Hours

Classes meet daily, Monday through Friday. Students attend a morning session (8 a.m. – 10:25 a.m.), with the opportunity to attend career and technical education programs in the afternoon.

Program guidelines

• Enrollment is open throughout the year
• Students must be between the ages of 16 and 21
• Students must be referred by a local high school counselor
• Students must test above a 9th-grade level in reading using the Test of Adult Basic Education (Students who do not meet the reading requirement may be placed in the Academic Enrichment Program, below)
• At least 10 weeks of class participation with mastery-level achievement in all academic components are required before a student can be recommended for GED® testing

Academic Enrichment Program (AEP)

The Academic Enrichment Program is tailored to fit the needs of non-classified students whose reading and math levels fall between 6th and 9th grade. Instruction is personalized with frequent assessments to measure a student’s readiness for advancement into the GED® Test program.

Additional Courses Available

In addition to the half-day academic component, there are a wide variety of half-day career and technical courses available to students. Career and college counseling, remediation, and placement services are also offered.
