Rockland BOCES CTEC Cell Phone and Electronic Device Policy
To maintain a safe, respectful, and distraction-free learning environment, Rockland BOCES CTEC has established the following policy regarding the use of cell phones and other electronic devices.
Policy Overview
- At the start of the school year, each CTE teacher will review this policy with students.
- Cell phones, smartwatches, earbuds, headphones, and other electronic devices will be collected or asked to be stored at the beginning of each class As required by Education Law §2803 and School Board Policy. Devices will be returned at the end of class.
- Devices may only be used during class with explicit teacher permission for instructional purposes.
- Exceptions may be made on an individual basis for healthcare, translation, or family care needs.
Parent/Guardian Communication
- If a parent or guardian needs to reach a student during school hours, they should contact the CTEC Main Office at (845) 627-4770.
- Parents are asked not to call or text students during class time.
Consequences for Policy Violations
- First Offense: Verbal warning issued by the teacher.
- Second Offense: A disciplinary/supplemental report will be written. A parent/guardian will be contacted by phone.
- Third Offense: A second disciplinary/supplemental report will be filed. A mandatory parent/guardian conference will be scheduled. The device will be held by administration until contact with the parent/guardian is made.
- Fourth Offense: A meeting will be held with the parent/guardian and the student’s home school district to discuss possible reprogramming back to the home school.
Refusal to Comply
- Refusal to surrender a device when requested will be considered insubordination.
- The student will be referred to Student Support for further intervention.
