We are happy to announce Ellie Colon as our Jesse J. Kaplan School November MOVER of the month! Our youngest MOVER to-date, Ellie started school in September not walking. Now, she is making great strides using the gait trainer to get to activities in the school, and using staff assistance for walking short distances. She stands at the table to explore sensory materials, with staff supporting her by her hips and can help wash and dry her hands at the sink after art activities and meals. With her newfound independence in walking, Ellie’s personality and confidence have blossomed. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for her! Thank you everyone who has helped Ellie MOVE.

Kaplan’s MOVE™ (Mobility Opportunities via Education) program combines therapy and education to teach children with physical disabilities and complex needs the functional skills of sitting, standing and walking. MOVE™ aims to give children an opportunity to lead more independent and more fulfilling lives. For some, this might be learning to hold their own cup; for others it might be learning to walk independently to explore their environment.

Contact Rockland BOCES’ Jesse J. Kaplan School at (845) 627-4797 to learn how MOVE™ can help someone in your life. Every child deserves the chance to MOVE™!
