National champions! Our Career and Technical Education Center (CTEC) Criminal Justice team of Emily Marte (East Ramapo), Jessica Mendoza (Nanuet) and Vaeli Nevil (East Ramapo) arrived home from the 55th annual SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Louisville, Kentucky on June 29 with heavy medals. Competing against hundreds of the nation’s top career technical education students in the field of Crime Scene Investigation, our BOCES trio placed third – winning three bronze medals. CTEC Criminal Justice Instructor Marta Cortelli led our student team to this impressive display of skill and strategy. We are #BOCESproud!

More than 6,000 students competed in 100 occupational and leadership skill areas during the five-day conference which showcases the best career and technical education students in the nation. Students compete in hands-on technical exams designed and judged by industry leaders and officials to celebrate career technical education. The national technical competitions help establish industry standards for job skill training and entry-level workers. SkillsUSA is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a successful model of employer-driven youth development training.
