Expanded Partnership With The UNC TEACCH® Autism Program

Expanded Partnership With The UNC TEACCH® Autism Program

Rockland BOCES this fall expanded its partnership with the University of North Carolina (UNC) to deepen the training of our administrators, educators and clinicians working with individuals on the autism spectrum. Recognized as an international model of autism spectrum disorder training and support, the UNC TEACCH® Autism Program focuses on the learning styles of autism and the use of Structured TEACCHing strategies and visual supports to provide meaning, promote independence and capitalize on individual strengths. Building on a strong foundation, our educators from the Jesse J. Kaplan School, the Lumina School at Viola, River View High School and our District-Based programs are now actively working alongside UNC consultants to refine and strengthen their TEACCH practices, focused on increasing student independence and maximizing time on task.

The University of North Carolina TEACCH® - Rockland BOCES partnership model alternates between in-person training, coaching and Zoom sessions, allowing for consistent support while keeping the work dynamic and responsive.

Rockland BOCES has a strong history with the TEACCH® model. Under the leadership of Student Services Director Gianluca DiMuccio, TEACCH® practices were recently implemented, refined and supported through training and coaching. Rockland BOCES is thrilled to welcome the TEACCH® team for the first phase of a three-year collaboration - expanding opportunities for additional training while helping our agency build internal expertise. We appreciate our educators continuing to invest in professional learning and finding new ways to better meet the needs of every Rockland BOCES student.
