The District Superintendent serves in an advisory capacity for all school districts and as a liaison between districts and the New York State Education Department.
Services include:
Selection of Superintendents
The District Superintendent, upon request, serves as a consultant in the recruitment, screening, and evaluation of candidates for the position of Superintendent of Schools. Charges are limited to out-of-pocket expenses and costs for personnel time above the normal use of BOCES’ staff.
Liaison
The District Superintendent facilitates communications between districts and the State Education Department, and interprets and clarifies the Commissioner’s Regulations.
Consultation
The District Superintendent is available to consult with Boards of Education in a variety of educational issues including:
- Board-administration relationships
- Management and planning
- Reorganization and merger
- School boundaries
- Assistance for districts involved in SURR, SINI, and NCLB
- Developing local programs for the disabled
- Career & Technical Education
- New York State’s Learning Standards and Graduation Requirements
