BOCES wins RBA Green Award
Honorees are being recognized for their commitment to the use of Green principles and products. Award recipients include large and small businesses, not-for-profit, government and educational entities. Rockland BOCES green initiatives include a windmill, solar panels, a roof garden, a student built house with solar panels, solar shingles, geothermal HVAC, and the use of bio-diesel fuel. “Our first group of winners shows us it's easy and cost effective to reduce energy and water use, recycle materials, and operate our buildings and sites in a more environmentally friendly manner,” said Michael Shilale, Architect and RBA Green Council Chair. “All of our winners have expanded beyond their organization's boundaries and helped educate RBA members and the larger community about the benefits of adopting green principles." Orange & Rockland Utilities, who regularly partners with Rockland BOCES career and technical education programs, is the presenting sponsor for the event. “By sponsoring this event it underscores the great importance of introducing energy efficiency measures into our daily lives. The wise use of these new technologies can help us to more closely control energy usage, better manage energy costs and dramatically reduce the amount of green house gases released into the atmosphere,” said Rick Struck, Director of Economic Development for O&R and RBA Green Council Committee Chair for Educational Seminars. Most recently, CTEC students demonstrated their skills at the Orange and Rockland booth at the Home and Garden Show in demonstrating quick insulation methods, students were able to put what they have learned about energy efficiency into practice in a very public forum. Congratulations to all!
