What is a School Library System?

New York's School Library Systems are state-funded programs designed to support the school library media programs of member public school districts and nonpublic schools. School Library Systems provide specific services and programs that support the learning process of students, teachers and staff. School Library System promote increased student achievement through the use of quality school library media programs, library resources and information.

School Library Systems provide:

  • ACCESS: Use of the latest technology to make library collections accessible to the educational community.

  • CONTENT: Establish special collections of materials through Cooperative Collection Development projects.

  • TRAINING: Provide for continuing education, professional development, and specialized training opportunities for school library media specialists.
